Frequently Asked Questions about Teeth Whitening and available Products
Everything you want to know about teeth whitening products
Teeth appearance is an important part of your smile and the way you look in general. A great smile can help improve your job opportunities, help you gain friends and maybe help find that love of your life! These are some of the reasons why many people turn to whitening procedures to improve the look of their smiles.
Whitening gels are transparent peroxide gels used for bleaching. Depending on the color, the whitening gel can whiten several shades brighter. However the whitening you can achieve with over the counter whitening gels cannot be compared with the results of professional teeth whitening products and procedures performed by a professional service provider.
Whitening is a relatively safe treatment according to the majority of studies done in the last 10 years. Modern whitening gels are better formulated and in general cause much less sensitivity than their earlier predecessors.
Cool Light LED whitening has become one of the most popular cosmetic appearance improvement options, because it's very effective and produces immediate results.
How does Celebrity Smile whitening work?
The Celebrity Smile whitening starts with a general clean, then applying special whitening gel. This whitening gel contains stronger bleaching agent compared to the gel used in over-the-counter tooth bleaching products, which ensures better results. After the whitening gel has been applied, the consultant uses our patented Cool Light system to activate the photo receptors, which facilitates better gel penetration through the enamel. The whitening procedure usually lasts between 20 and 60 minutes (depending on the severity of staining) and the results can be seen immediately after.
How effective is Celebrity Smile whitening?
Celebrity Smile whitening is very effective, and produces better and faster results compared to other whitening methods. Depending on your shade and condition, the Celebrity Smile System can whiten up to 10 shades.
Before you consider undergoing a whitening procedure, it is a good idea to learn what causes yellow staining in the first place. There are many factors that affect the color, and we have described the most important ones below:
Getting Older.
Getting older affects your entire body. As you age your teeth are turning yellow and this is a perfectly natural process that can be reversed with Celebrity Smile.
What you eat and drink affects your bright smile.
That’s right, food and drinks can greatly influence the color! There are foods and beverages that make your teeth darker, the worst offenders being red wine, cigarettes, soda drinks, coffee, chocolate, and berries. With a visit from Celebrity Smile, you can have your cake and eat it too!!!
Accidents.
If you bump a tooth, you might damage it, and this can cause the tooth to get darker.
Antibiotics.
Consumption of certain antibiotics during your early years can result in yellowing. There are several situations where your professional might advise you not to undergo a whitening procedure. One of these cases is when your front teeth have caps or crowns, which simply cannot be whitened beyond their original colour with bleaching paste or gel.
Which shades are easier to whiten?
In general if your teeth are yellow, it will be easier to make them whiter. Grayer shades are harder to whiten. The easiest way to find out what to expect is to talk to your consultant.
Can you undergo bleaching procedures during pregnancy or while nursing?
Bleaching is not advisable for women that breast feed and during pregnancy.
Will whitening make my crowns, bridges and veneers whiter?
No, tooth whitening procedures will only bring your crowns, bridges and veneers back to their original colour.
Can I undergo bleaching procedures while I have untreated cavities or gum problems?
It is advisable to first treat your cavities and/or gums and whiten after that. If you suspect you have problems and you are planning a bleaching procedure, always go for dental checkup first.
How long does the whitening last?
On average you can expect to have whiter teeth for 1 - 2 years after whitening, but this will vary from person to person and on your lifestyle. You can keep the results longer if you avoid foods and drinks that stain your teeth. Examples of foods and beverages that stain teeth are tea, coffee and red wine.
Are whitening toothpastes just as effective?
Whitening toothpastes can be effective for removing surface stains and to maintain your teeth whiter longer, after a whitening procedure. Most toothpastes offer on the market today are marketed as teeth whitening products.
Is it painful?
The bleaching procedure is not supposed to be painful, but with that said keep in mind that it might cause tooth and/or gum sensitivity. If this happens your Celebrity Smile consultant will provide you with a de-sensitizer at no cost.
What is the right shade of white?
There is no "right" shade, and it all depends on what shade you want. It's a good idea to strike a balance between "movie star smile", which is usually extremely white veneers, and a more natural appearance. Also keep in mind that gray, dark stained teeth might not respond well to whitening, while white and yellow teeth usually become whiter after treatment.
How many times a year can I have a whitening procedure done?
The procedure can be performed up to 3 times per year.
What causes white spots on my teeth?
Usually too much fluoride during the development of the teeth, causes white spots. If you see any spots on your teeth always speak with your consultant about them.
What is Carbamide Peroxide?
Carbamide peroxide is an oxidising agent, consisting of hydrogen peroxide compounded. The molecular formula is CH6N2O3, or CH4N2O.H2O2. It is a white crystalline solid that releases oxygen when it comes in contact with water and particular light wavelengths.
Pure carbamide peroxide has the form of white crystals or crystal powder, is soluble in water, and contains approximately 35% hydrogen peroxide.
Carbamide peroxide is used to
1. whiten teeth
2. relieve minor inflammation of gums, oral mucosal surfaces and lips including canker sores and dental irritation; and to
3. emulsify and disperse ear wax.
Carbamide peroxide is commonly encountered in cosmetic dentistry, where it is used to "bleach" teeth. The active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide, which acts to oxidise interprismatic extrinsic staining within tooth enamel.
The bleaching obtained is proportional to the length of time the peroxide is applied to the tooth, and the concentration used.
The concentration most commonly used for tooth whitening purposes is 3% to 10% (that is available for over-the-counter sales in pharmacies).
The higher concentrations of 35% carbamide peroxide used by Celebrity Smile is the same strength used by dentists charging MANY,MANY HUNDREDS of dollars more, and is ONLY available (legally) for application by a Practitioner!
Other Comments.
If you have untreated cavities, problems with your gums (sensitive gums or gum disease), or the enamel has thinned-out, your professional might decide against tooth bleaching. Another case where whitening might not be recommended is if your teeth have dark stains, as these are harder to bleach. The closer to yellow your teeth are the better chance to achieve strong whitening results.
Tooth bleaching is not recommended under the age of 16.
